OVERSEAS HOMICIDE

THE DETAILS SURROUNDING THE CRIME

Information is being sought in connection with the bombing of Flight 00901, Alas Chiricanas Airlines. The aircraft departed from France Field, Colon, Panama with a destination of Panama City, Panama on July 19, 1994 at approximately 4:30 p.m. CDT. Authorities are seeking information that may pertain to possible suspect(s) and the crime aboard this flight.

All remains from passengers and crew in the Alas crash were claimed except one. The body has been tentatively identified as Jamal Lya. He is suspected of carrying the bomb aboard the aircraft.

Jamal Lya was described as appearing to be a Middle Eastern male, 25 to 28 years old, approximately 5'9" tall and weighing 160 pounds. He had a white complexion, thick eyebrows, light brown eyes, black hair and short sideburns. He reportedly wore black or dark green pants and a short sleeve shirt with a dark pattern. He did not speak English or Spanish, however he possibly spoke Arabic. In order to communicate instructions to people he used hand signals or wrote notes.

The incident took place a day after a Muslim fundamentalist terrorist group allegedly bombed the Argentine-Israeli Mutual Association in Buenos Aires, Argentina, killing 42 people. This group is also suspected of involvement in the Flight 00901 bombing.
