CHARGES NYC GALLERY OWNER IN MULTIMILLION-DOLLAR GLOBAL SCHEME TO SELL REAL MASTERWORKS
AND FORGED COPIES "Jeune
Femme S'Essuyant" oil on canvas 4 x 7 7/8 in. "Paysage
(Landscape)" oil on canvas 7 1/2 x 11 1/2 in. On
March 12, 1955, a painting by the French artist, Auguste Renoir, was removed from
its frame while on exhibit in one of the galleries at the Philadelphia Museum
of Art. The oil on canvas painting was mounted on a rectangular stretcher, measuring
approximately 12" x 10", and the canvas may show marks of the oval frame
from which it was removed. It is signed "Renoir" in the upper right-hand
corner.
