Project Safe Neighborhoods: BRIDGEPORT MAN SENTENCED TO MORE THAN 6 YEARS ON FEDERAL FIREARMS CONVICTION

Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that KYLE GLENN, age 25, formerly of 185 Platt Street, Bridgeport, Connecticut, was sentenced today by United States District Court Judge Janet C. Hall in Bridgeport to 75 months of incarceration on his conviction of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. GLENN was arrested on November 21, 2003, by the Bridgeport Police Department, the Connecticut Fugitive Task Force, the United States Marshal Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. He has been detained since his arrest.

On January 14, 2004, GLENN pleaded guilty, admitting under oath that, on September 12, 2003, while in his mother's house at 185 Platt Street in Bridgeport, he knowingly possessed a loaded, .30 caliber U.S. carbine rifle, which had been manufactured in Illinois by the Rock-Ola Corporation. GLENN also admitted that, prior to that date, he had been convicted in Connecticut of five felonies: four separate sale of narcotics convictions and one second degree forgery conviction. It is a violation of federal law for a convicted felon to possess a firearm that moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

"This prosecution is one more example of how the joint firearms task force is actively operating to remove dangerous felons from the streets and thereby reduce the number of shootings in Bridgeport," U.S. Attorney O'Connor stated.

This matter was investigated by the Bridgeport Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert M. Spector.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative is aimed at reducing gun violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents in Connecticut's cities. Participants in the initiative include community members and organizations as well as federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
