WEST HAVEN WOMAN SENTENCED FOR STORING CRACK

Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that CYNTHIA BONILLA, age 34, of 63 Lamson Street, West Haven, Connecticut, was sentenced yesterday, September 20, by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven to 57 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for maintaining a drug involved premises.

On June 22, 2004, BONILLA pleaded guilty, admitting that she permitted subjects of a federal investigation to store more than 50 grams of crack cocaine in her apartment. When law enforcement officers searched the apartment, in addition to the narcotics, they recovered over $7,000 and two firearms.

"It is obvious from this sentence that individuals who permit others to store illegal drugs in their homes face a substantial federal prison term," U.S. Attorney O'Connor stated.

This case was investigated by law enforcement partners in the Safe Street Task Force, which includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New Haven Police Department, the Hamden Police Department, the Milford Police Department, the Ansonia Police Department and the State of Connecticut Department of Correction. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony E. Kaplan.
