Project Safe Neighborhoods: HARTFORD MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that ANTOINE MORGAN, age 20, of 102 Brook Street, Hartford, Connecticut, appeared in federal court in Bridgeport today and pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

MORGAN, who was previously convicted in Hartford Superior Court on April 9, 2001,of larceny in the second degree, admitted that on January 27, 2003, he possessed a Remington, Model 870 Express, 12 gauge, pump action shot gun. MORGAN was arrested on that date by Hartford Police who responded to 102 Brook Street on report of his threatening two women with a sawed-off shotgun. MORGAN entered his plea and agreed to a binding sentence of 46 months of imprisonment. He will be sentenced by the Honorable District Court Judge Janet C. Hall on December 6, 2004.

The case was investigated by Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms and officers of the Hartford Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas V. Daily.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative is aimed at reducing gun violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents in Connecticut's cities. Participants in the initiative include community members and organizations as well as federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
