THIRD FORMER FEDEX GROUND EMPLOYEE PLEADS GUILTY TO STEALING FIREARMS

Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that ANEUDY DAVILA, age 23, of 194 Hamilton Street, Apt. 409, New Haven, Connecticut, pleaded guilty today to an Information charging him with stealing firearms that were traveling as part of interstate shipments. United States Magistrate Judge Joan Glazer Margolis accepted DAVILA's plea of guilty this morning in New Haven. DAVILA was arrested on March 25, 2004.

According to documents filed in court, between February 2004 and March 17, 2004, DAVILA was employed as a package handler at FedEx Ground, located in Wallingford, Connecticut. During that time, DAVILA admitted to stealing two firearms from packages that were being shipped from Charter 2000. DAVILA also admitted that in March 2004, he and two other former employees, Jason Rodriguez and Jonathan Garcia, stole two long guns from the FedEx Terminal by burglarizing the Terminal by cutting a hole in the fence and pushing one of the windows out.

On April 14, 2004, both Rodriguez and Garcia pleaded guilty to an identical charge and currently await sentencing.

When DAVILA is sentenced by United States District Judge Janet B. Arterton on August 31, 2004, he faces up to ten years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000.

"Persons who steal firearms that they are entrusted with handling and shipping, and then indiscriminately dispose of these firearms for profit, will be vigorously prosecuted," U.S. Attorney O'Connor stated.

U.S. Attorney O'Connor further stated that investigation is continuing.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony E. Kaplan, and is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the New Haven Police Department.
