MERIDEN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS TO OBTAIN SSI BENEFITS Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that ROLAND HALL, SR., age 43, of 9 Milk Street, South Meriden, Connecticut pleaded guilty today to making false statements and representations to obtain supplemental social security income (SSI) benefits. In proceedings before Senior United States District Judge Alfred V. Covello in Hartford, HALL admitted that in an effort to continue to receive SSI payments, he falsely told representatives of the Social Security Administration that he lived alone, and that no one in the household was the parent or child of the landlord. As revealed during court proceedings, special agents of the Office of the Inspector General for the Social Security Administration determined that when HALL made those statements, he was living with his wife and daughter in a residence in South Meriden that was owned by his son. HALL faces a maximum sentence of five years of imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000 when he is sentenced by Judge Covello on August 13, 2004. U.S. Attorney O'Connor commended the investigative efforts of special agents of the Office of the Inspector General for the Social Security Administration who have worked on this case and acknowledged his appreciation for the assistance provided by an inspector from the Chief States Attorney's Office for the State of Connecticut. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael E. Runowicz. | |
