FORMER SHELTON RESIDENT SENTENCED FOR POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that PAUL CUNI, age 27, formerly of 104 Bighorn Road, Shelton, Connecticut, and now residing in Henderson, Nevada, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 21 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, and a $5,000 fine for possessing child pornography on his home computer in Shelton.

A search warrant was executed at the home by the Federal Bureau of Investigation after CUNI transferred computer files containing images of child pornography to a detective from the Keene, New Hampshire Police Department who was conducting an undercover investigation into trafficking in child pornography. CUNI pleaded guilty on September 11, 2003.

"This case demonstrates the commitment of our office to protecting children from all persons who would seek to exploit them," stated United States Attorney O'Connor. "We will vigorously prosecute all levels of this insidious business including those who possess such materials. Their interest in acquiring or collecting child pornography creates the incentive for producers of such materials to victimize children for their production."

This case was investigated by the Keene, New Hampshire Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Peter A. Clark.
