BLOOMFIELD WOMAN WHO STOLE FROM AETNA SENTENCED

Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that De'Lisa WILLIAMS, age 34, of 59 Barry Circle, Bloomfield, Connecticut, was sentenced today to two years of probation following her conviction for wire fraud. In proceedings this morning in New Haven, Senior United States District Judge Ellen B. Burns also ordered WILLIAMS to spend the first six months of her probation confined to her home with electronic monitoring. Judge Burns departed from the sentencing guidelines, noting that WILLIAMS' family responsibilities and psychiatric history warranted a guideline departure.

On October 29, 2003, WILLIAMS, a former claims analyst at Aetna, pleaded guilty to a one-count Information charging her with wire fraud. WILLIAMS has admitted that between November 2002 and May 2003, she prepared approximately $77,500 worth of fictitious claims for long-term health care benefits, and thereafter wired the funds to persons who were neither insured by Aetna nor entitled to receive health care benefits. As part of her guilty plea, WILLIAMS has paid full restitution.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant United States Attorney Ronald S. Apter.
