MANCHESTER MAN RECEIVES 77-MONTH FEDERAL PRISON TERM FOR SELLING CRACK Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that LEROY McCROREY, age 42, formerly of 234 Oak Street, Manchester, Connecticut, was sentenced today by Senior U.S. District Judge Ellen Bree Burns in New Haven to 77 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, on his conviction for selling "crack" cocaine. McCROREY, a member of the 20 Love Gang, was indicted in January 1997 on charges of selling 6.5 grams of crack cocaine on four separate occasions in July and August 1996 to Manchester and South Windsor police officers who were acting in an undercover capacity. McCROREY fled the jurisdiction before he was arrested in June 2003 in Miami, Florida. In Florida, McCROREY was using the name "Robert Ruff," but fingerprint analysis confirmed his actually identity, and that he was wanted in Connecticut. McCROREY pleaded guilty on February 10, 2004, to one count of the Indictment. In addition to McCROREY, nine 20 Love Gang members, named in the original indictment, have been successfully prosecuted. The case was investigated by members of the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force and the Manchester Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant United States Attorney Ronald S. Apter. | |
