GLASTONBURY MAN WHO POSSESSED CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IS SENTENCED

Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that RICHARD NAY, age 57, of 7 Rosewood Drive, Glastonbury, Connecticut, was sentenced by United States District Judge Christopher F. Droney in Hartford to one month of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release, the first five months of which he must spend confined to his home, for possession of child pornography. The conditions of NAY's supervised release include registration with the state sex offender registry and participation in a program for the treatment and monitoring of sex offenders.

On July 21, 2003, NAY pleaded guilty to an Information charging him with possession of child pornography. NAY admitted that he possessed a computer that contained several images of child pornography that had been transported in interstate commerce. The computer was seized and searched pursuant to a search warrant executed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Glastonbury Police Department at NAY's residence in Glastonbury. The child pornography images maintained on his hard drive had been transported in interstate and foreign commerce through use of the computer and were produced with materials that had been transported in interstate and foreign commerce through use of the computer.

"We will continue to vigorously prosecute those who exploit children through the possession of child pornography," stated U.S. Attorney O'Connor, noting that this is one of many cases of crimes against children being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Glastonbury Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas V. Daily.
