HAMDEN MAN INDICTED ON FEDERAL ATTEMPTED ROBBERY CHARGE Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced today that a federal grand jury returned an indictment yesterday against JEFFREY S. ROBINSON, age 41, of 3686 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, Connecticut, on one count of attempted robbery affecting interstate commerce. The charges against ROBINSON arise from his March 7, 2004, alleged attempt to rob a convenience store at the Branford Auto Center in Branford. The U.S. Attorney noted that ROBINSON was previously convicted in federal court for attempting to obstruct justice in connection with a federal firearms investigation, and he was sentenced in 2002 for that offense to a term of 27 months imprisonment. The robbery of the convenience store in Branford occurred while ROBINSON was on supervised release from his prior federal sentence. If convicted, ROBINSON faces a maximum term of 20 years imprisonment, 3 years supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. U.S. Attorney O'Connor stressed that an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the Government's burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Branford Police Department, the Clinton Police Department and the State's Attorney's Office in New Haven. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeffrey A. Meyer. | |
