Addis is extremely health conscious, physically fit, and an avid body-builder who has established himself in health clubs as a member or personal trainer. Once certified as an instructor in crime scene and death investigations, Addis is also a skilled marksman, survivalist, and small plane pilot. Addis claims to write science fiction novels and screen plays on UFOs. Addis reportedly believes in UFOs and Ra, the sun god in Egyptian mythology.

John Patrick Addis is wanted for his alleged involvement in the murder of his girlfriend in Nevada. Both Addis and the victim were reportedly together when she disappeared on August 19, 1995, from her Las Vegas residence. In October of 1998, the remains of the victim's body were discovered by a hunter in a remote region of Yavapai County, Arizona.

Addis was charged with murder and first degree kidnapping in a state arrest warrant which was issued on July 31, 1998, by the District Court, Clark County, Nevada. On October 30, 1998, a federal arrest warrant was issued by the United States District Court, in the District of Nevada, charging Addis with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

The FBI is offering a reward for information leading directly to the arrest of John Patrick Addis.
