DID YOU EVER WONDER?

What would it be like to work in another NOAA line office or staff office, or in another part of your own Line Office?

What would it be like learn how another NOAA Line Office uses your office’s products and services to perform their work?

How you might learn new skills while traveling to another part of the country for several months or without ever leaving your duty station?

What the “scientific types” or the “administrative types” do for a living?

The NOAA Rotational Assignment Program (NRAP) gives you an opportunity to answer these questions, and others like them, and to become a NEW OR IMPROVED YOU.

Usually, employees of NOAA perform specific jobs with specific duties, and seldom receive an opportunity to deviate from them. The NOAA Rotational Assignment Program (NRAP) offers career development via short-term assignments away from one’s regular position.

How is this possible? Each NOAA Line or Staff Office is offering short-term assignments for which you can apply. Assignments are available within other NOAA line and staff offices and possibly within your own. If selected for one of these assignments, you will work with your supervisor and host office (the office offering the assignment) on a timeframe for beginning and completing the assignment.

Why is NOAA management offering this program? It is committed to promoting a NOAA corporate culture and to developing the NOAA workforce to its fullest potential. NRAP is intended to promote cross-line, multidisciplinary experiences that broaden employees’ understanding of NOAA's missions and goals, as well as of organizational structures from regional and headquarters perspectives.

Detailed information about this program can be found in the NRAP policy (pdf, 72kb).
