The Population Estimates Program develops and releases monthly national population estimates by demographic characteristics. These estimates cover four different populations: resident population, resident population plus Armed Forces overseas, civilian population and civilian noninstitutional population. Reference dates for monthly estimates are for the first of the month. The first release of total population estimates at the end of the calendar year includes demographic components of change (births, deaths, and migration). Later releases include population data by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin and give numbers for single year of age, different age groups and median age.
