The USAID Library serves as a point of access to the body of knowledge relating to sustainable development and USAID information for individuals interested in the field of international development. With a particular focus on international sustainable development and economic assistance, the library's collection supports the Agency's development efforts in its strategic objective areas: democracy and governance; economic growth; education and training; environment and agriculture; humanitarian assistance; and population, health, and nutrition. The library's primary mission is to serve the information needs of USAID staff. This catalog is now available on the Web in order to share these resources with USAID's development partners. University students and the general public with an interest in researching USAID or development topics are also welcome to use the resources available on site at its 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue (Ronald Reagan Building) location. The materials referenced in our catalog represent a collection of works that are invaluable to USAID's development efforts. If you're in the Washington, DC area, we hope that you'll visit the USAID Library to learn more about how you can use the valuable resources available to support your work and studies. ONLINE CATALOG SEARCHThis catalog provides access to the library's collection of over 10,000 monographs and periodicals published by commercial publishers, donor agencies, and other organizations active in international development. In general, it does not include reports published by USAID or USAID contractors. For access to those documents, please visit the Development Experience System database. If
you have difficulty finding materials in this catalog, or have other questions, please
feel free to contact the library via e-mail at cdie_info@usaid.gov.
Guidelines for Visitors to USAID Library:
Members of the public who have a need to identify and/or view USAID documents, reports, publications, and program summaries can access the Development Experience System (DEXS), a family of bibliographic databases containing records for about 100,000 USAID technical and program documents on the Web. It is available from the USAID Development Experience Clearinghouse (DEC) at http://www.dec.org/title_search.cfm. Documents may also be ordered online from the DEC via this web page, in addition to via telephone and fax (follow web page document ordering instructions). All documents cataloged in the DEXS prior to approximately mid-1996 are also available for you to use in the USAID Library in microfiche form. The CD-DEXS CD-ROM, containing an index and the full text of many more recent USAID reports, is also available for your use in the USAID Library.
The library is on the mezzanine level of the Ronald Reagan Building. It is located on the side of the atrium with the high neon light sculpture. Enter through the glass doors marked USAID Information Center, and the attendants will direct you to the library. The library is open from 9:00 to 4:30, Monday through Friday, except for government holidays. USAID Library
