Shirley asked me to talk about the history of the FBI. We were not always called the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). When we began in 1908, we were known as the Bureau of Investigation. On July 26 of that year, the Attorney General appointed ten Special Agents to the Bureau of Investigation, and called them the Special Agent Task Force.
