Dear Guaranty Agency Director: In our March 26 update to you, we notified you of the counties in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia that the President has declared to be disaster areas because of tornadoes and severe flooding caused by heavy rains that generally began in those areas on or about February 28. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has informed us that it has added additional counties in Kentucky since the date of our last notification. The following list of counties reflects the information we have obtained from FEMA as of the date of this letter. The counties added in Kentucky since our last notice to you have been underlined (CAPITALIZED on the BBS). Arkansas: Clark, Cross, Greene, Hempstead, Hot Springs, Jackson, Lonoke, Mississippi, Nevada, Poinsett, Pulaski, Saline, and White. Illinois: Alexander, Gallatin, Hardin, Massac, and Pope. Indiana: Clark, Crawford, Dearborn, Floyd, Harrison, Jefferson, Ohio, Perry, Posey, Spencer, Switzerland, Vanderburgh, and Warrick. Kentucky: Andersen, BALLARD, Bath, Boone, Bourbon, Boyd, Bracken, Breckinridge, Bullitt, Butler, Caldwell, Campbell, CARLISLE, Carroll, Carter, Christian, Crittenden, Daviess, Elliott, ESTILL, Fayette, Fleming, Floyd, Franklin, FULTON, Gallatin, Grant, GRAYSON Greenup, Hancock, Hardin, Harrison, HART, Henderson, Henry, HICKMAN, Hopkins, Jefferson, Jessamine, Kenton, Larue, Lawrence, Lewis, Livingston, MARSHALL, Mason, McCracken, McLean, Meade, Menifee, Mercer, MONROE, Montgomery, Morgan, Nelson, Nicholas, Ohio, Oldham, Owen, Pendleton, Pike, Powell, Robertson, Rowan, Scott, Shelby, SIMPSON, Spencer, TODD, Trimble, Union, WARREN, Washington, Webster, and WOODFORD. The list of designated disaster areas for borrower-initiated 90-day forbearances under the guidelines first outlined in the January 14, 1997 "Dear Guaranty Agency Director" letter is complete as of the date of this letter. We will notify you if additional areas are designated by the President or FEMA. Lenders and guaranty agencies may contact the Department's toll-free number at 1-800-433-7327, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST for further updates. This letter has also been sent to each regional office of the Department, plus the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs, Inc., the Consumer Bankers Association, and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
