Dear High School Counselor and TRIO Counselor:

The U.S. Department of Education is pleased to announce training for high school counselors and TRIO counselors who advise students and parents on student financial assistance for postsecondary education. From October through January, we will offer forty one-day workshops nation-wide (see the enclosed schedule).

A Department of Education trainer and a local college financial aid administrator will present the training, which begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. There is no charge for the workshop or participant materials, but you will need to make your own arrangements for lodging, transportation, and meals. You do not need to bring anything to the training site.

Session 2 - Completing the 2000-2001 Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA), with questions and answers.

Session 3 – Hands-on overview of applying electronically through FAFSA on the Web

Session 4 - Getting the Results

Session 5 - What the College Does

Other topics include a review of the federal financial aid delivery system and how an expected family contribution (EFC) is calculated.
