The Space Environment Center's Space Weather Operations center has the responsibility
for providing the Nation's real-time space weather services 24 hours per day.
It is a busy and fascinating place to visit, and visitors are welcome during
normal business hours with some exceptions for times when duties preclude
interuptions for the center staff.
To set up a tour of only the Space Weather Operations center, contact Kathleen.McKillen@noaa.gov (303-497-3204) as far in advance as possible of a visit. While the tour may be conducted in the actual forecast center, it will most likely be outside of the center in the foyer.
As far in advance as possible of a visit, contact Kathleen.McKillen@noaa.gov(303-497-3204), or Larry.Combs@noaa.gov (303-497-5299). They will assist in coordinating the visit and provide a presenter for the group. Large groups will be handled in the viewing area outside the forecast center.
All visits should be co-ordinated as far in advance as possible. Larry.Combs@noaa.gov (303-497-5299) and Kathleen.McKillen@noaa.gov (303-497-3204) are the main schedulers. If further contact is needed, you can contact Joseph.Kunches@noaa.gov(303-497-5275)or call the duty forecaster (303-497-3171).
The best time for media visits is weekdays between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The forecaster and soltech have specific timeline requirements between these hours, but most can be accomplished in brief 10- to 15-minute periods in times of low activity. The busy time for the staff is from 1 to 4 p.m.
Crews should coordinate any setup of their equipment with SWO staff or representative (proper plug-in for lights, placing of certain equipment, etc.).
