The Minnesota Fugitive Task Force (MFTF) announced today the arrest of Edward LaBois

The Minnesota Fugitive Task Force (MFTF) announced today the arrest of Edward LaBois, aka Edward Ekberg, aka Stephen Maine Riegel, age 59; and Karri Dee LaBois, aka Karri Ekberg, aka K. C. Merrill, age 49, both formerly of Minnetonka, Minnesota. The LaBois' were arrested on Monday, November 10, 2003, at approximately 7:30 p.m. CST by members of the Salt Lake City FBI Violent Crimes Task Force. The fugitives were arrested without incident at their residence located at 3200 West 3996 South, West Valley, Utah. The LaBois' have been fugitives from justice for over 19 years. On September 11, 1984, a Criminal Complaint was filed in Hennepin County District Court charging the LaBois' with one felony count each of Intra-Familial Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. Authorities believe that the LaBois' fled Minnesota shortly before the charges were filed in 1984.

Shortly after the local charges were filed in 1984, a Federal Criminal Compliant was filed in United States District Court, District of Minnesota, charging the LaBois' with Unlawful Flight To Avoid Prosecution. Recently, the Minnesota Fugitive Task Force was able to determine the whereabouts of the LaBois' and pass on this information to the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force in Salt Lake City, Utah.

This is one more example of the perseverance and excellence of the MFTF in locating alleged criminals who are fugitives from justice. The Minneapolis FBI Office established the MFTF in June of 1992, for the purpose of operating an efficient and cohesive unit dedicated to locating and apprehending fugitives wanted for serious federal, state, and local crimes. Since its inception, the MFTF has safely arrested over 1645 dangerous fugitives and located over 475 fugitives throughout the world.
