KIDNAPPED CHILD RECOVERED IN TEXAS

John E. Lewis, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Oklahoma, Carl Hiner, Sheriff, Payne County Sheriff's Office, Norman McNickle, Chief, Stillwater Police Department, and Thomas Jordan, Acting Director, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, announced the safe recovery of Shawnda Marie Cheney, 10, and the arrest of Presley Earl Hood, 56, for her kidnaping.

Based on a tip provided to the FBI, Pearland Police Department, Pearland, Texas, positively located Hood's 1991 Buick Century near the 3200 block of Hatfield Lane in Pearland. At approximately 2:00 a.m. this morning, Agents from the Houston Division of the FBI safely recovered Shawnda Marie Cheney and arrested Presley Earl Hood without incident in a trailer in which they were sleeping.
Hood was arrested on Federal kidnaping charges. Cheney was taken into FBI custody and transported to a medical facility.

Cheney was kidnaped Friday night at approximately 7:30 p.m. near her residence in the community of Thomasville located east of Stillwater, Oklahoma.

The kidnaping was investigated by the FBI, Payne County Sheriff's Office, Stillwater Police Department and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
