Fourteen-Year-Old Girl Recovered From Mexico --Keith Slotter, Special Agent in Charge of the Sacramento Division of the FBI, and Modoc County Sheriff Bruce Mix announced today the successful recovery of a fourteen-year-old girl from Mexico City, Mexico. The minor, whose name was withheld because of her age, disappeared from her Cedarville, California home during the early morning hours on July 27, 2004. The girl was allegedly in the company of a twenty-eight-year-old man from Lakeview, Oregon.

It is believed that the pair traveled from Cedarville to Santa Rosa, California and then on to Mexico City, Mexico by way of vehicle, bus, and air transportation. Following a tip, the pair was located in Mexico City where Mexican authorities and a Special Agent assigned to the FBI's Legal Attaché Office in Mexico City took custody of the underage girl. The girl was flown to Oakland where she was met by Redding FBI agents who then delivered her to Modoc County authorities in Alturas. This matter remains under joint investigation by the Redding office of the FBI and the Modoc County Sheriff's Office.

This recovery is the result of a fast-moving joint investigation by the Modoc County Sheriff's Office and the FBI. According to Slotter, "This recovery could not have been made without the close cooperation of the Modoc County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, and Mexican authorities."
