The FBI today issued the following statement:

FBI Special Agent Paul A. Leveille was killed yesterday in a fixed-wing airplane crash while on duty near Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was conducting aviation training with Chuck Burns, a flight instructor employed with Colorado Skyways. The FBI has a contractual agreement with Colorado Skyways. The FBI Mountain Flying Training Course is held in Colorado Springs. Special Agent Leveille was receiving in-flight training from Mr. Burns when they were lost in this untimely accident.

FBI Director Louis J. Freeh said, "I am deeply saddened upon hearing of the tragic accidental deaths of Special Agent Leveille and Mr. Burns. Special Agent Leveille was a dedicated, young Agent who represented the best of the future of the FBI. He was universally respected by his peers and a devoted family man. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed."

After graduation from the FBI Academy at Quantico, Virginia in 1996, Special Agent Leveille was assigned to the El Paso, Texas Field Office. Previously, he flew for the New Mexico Air National Guard. Special Agent Leveille was a skilled pilot who enjoyed flying.

Special Agent Leveille resided in Anthony, Texas, and is survived by his wife, Joyce, and six children.

The FBI offers sincere condolences to the family, friends and Colorado Skyways co- workers of Chuck Burns.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
