The FBI today released the following statement:

Special Agent David Farrall, formerly assigned to the FBI's Miami field office as a probationary employee, was dismissed today. Former Agent Farrall was involved in a tragic automobile accident for which he was charged by Florida authorities with two counts of vehicular homicide. The FBI is cooperating fully with Florida authorities.

This dismissal results from a comprehensive internal inquiry by the FBI's Office of Professional Responsibility. That inquiry found that former Agent Farrall, prior to the accident, operated a motor vehicle after consuming a significant amount of alcohol, contrary to the FBI's strict policies regarding employee conduct. Dismissal is the only appropriate discipline given the results of the internal inquiry.

The internal inquiry focused only on conduct preceding the accident. Investigation into the accident itself is being handled by Florida authorities as part of their criminal investigation that led to the charges of vehicular homicide.

FBI probationary employees are afforded certain but lesser procedural rights during the course of an internal disciplinary inquiry.
