FBI Director Mueller Names Jonathan I. Solomon Executive Assistant Director for Administration

Washington, DC – FBI Director Robert Mueller today named Jonathan I. Solomon to be Executive Assistant Director (EAD) for Administration. Mr. Solomon was appointed to the position on a temporary basis on May 18, 2004, and reported to Headquarters on May 24, 2004. With this appointment, Mr. Solomon formally joins the top tier of FBI leadership and assumes responsibility for managing the FBI's administrative programs worldwide as well as directing the FBI's re-engineering initiatives.

Mr. Solomon served as the Special Assistant to Director Mueller from January 2003 through February 2004, and provided counsel to the Director on a wide variety of policy issues. On January 22, 2004, he was appointed as the Special Agent in Charge of the Miami Field Office.

Director Mueller said, “The EAD for Administration will oversee our efforts to modernize our business processes and to make the Bureau more agile, so we can adapt quickly and easily to changing threats. Jon is taking on this position at a critical time for the FBI, and I am confident that he has the knowledge of the Bureau, the drive, and the vision to navigate us through this time of change.”

Mr. Solomon has been with the FBI since September 1983 and brings a wide range of experience to his new position. He served in the Kansas City, Philadelphia, Buffalo, and Tampa field offices, and has handled a variety of criminal matters including, organized and white collar crime. He has worked extensively on administrative matters including hiring, personnel performance, and inspections. His service as Special Assistant to a prior EAD for Administration, as well as his experience in the Director’s Office gives him a unique understanding of the organization, the Director’s vision for reform, and the challenges to implementing that vision.

Mr. Solomon has degrees in political science and law from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and is a member of the New York State Bar.
