DIRECTOR
ROBERT MUELLER ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT
SERVICES
WASHINGTON, D.C. - FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III, announced the appointment
of Grant D. Ashley to the position of Executive Assistant Director (EAD) for Law
Enforcement Services.
Mr.
Ashley brings more than 27 years of law enforcement and investigative experience
to the EAD position. He has served as the Assistant Director for the Criminal
Investigative Division since February 2002 and is responsible for devising and
implementing innovative strategies for incorporating intelligence into the FBI's
criminal investigations. In his new position, Mr. Ashley will oversee the FBI's
wide-ranging efforts to support state and municipal law enforcement, including
support provided by the FBI's Training and Development Division, Laboratory Division,
47 Legal Attaché offices, the Investigative Technologies Division, and the Criminal
Justice Information Services Division.
Director
Mueller said, "Support for our partners in law enforcement is a priority for the
FBI and is absolutely vital to our success in fighting terrorism and crime. Grant's
background and experience as an investigator and manager make him ideally suited
to oversee these efforts. He will bring to bear the same drive and innovation
that he brought to criminal investigations to our efforts to improve the FBI's
law enforcement services."
Mr.
Ashley began his career with the FBI in 1976 as a professional support employee
and became a Special Agent in 1980. In his first assignment as a Special Agent
in Los Angeles, he investigated white-collar and violent crimes and served on
the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. Between 1995 and 2002, Mr. Ashley
served as Assistant Special Agent in Charge for the San Diego Division, Associate
Special Agent in Charge of the San Francisco Division, and Special Agent in Charge
of the Las Vegas Division. He is a certified public accountant.
