DEFENDANT PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES

Marcos Daniel Jiménez, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida; and William T. Sims, Special Agent in Charge of the United States Secret Service, Miami Field Office, announced today that defendant, Michael Williams, pleaded guilty to one count of promoting, presenting, or advertising photographs of minor children engaging in sexually explicit conduct over the internet, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252A(a)(3)(B), and one count of possession of child pornography, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252A(a)(5)(B). On the former count, Williams faces a minimum statutory term of imprisonment of five (5) years and a maximum statutory term of imprisonment of twenty (20) years. On the latter count, Williams faces a maximum statutory term of imprisonment of ten (10) years. Williams also faces a maximum statutory fine of $250,000 on each count.

According to the Indictment and criminal complaint, Williams, on April 26, 2004, expressed an interest in swapping nude pictures of his toddler with other individuals in an internet chat room. An undercover agent, who posed as a person with a 10-year-old daughter, responded to Williams. Williams expressed his willingness to allow the undercover agent to engage in sexual activity with his daughter in exchange for meeting and looking at the undercover agent’s daughter. Later, Williams posted a computer hyperlink in the chat room that contained pornographic images of males and females under 18 years old. On April 30, 2004, a federal search warrant led to the discovery of images of child pornography stored on computers in Williams’ residence.

Mr. Jiménez commended the investigative efforts of the United States Secret Service, Miami Electronic Crimes Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Greg Munson and Harold Schimkat.
