DEFENDANT PLEADS GUILTY TO TAX EVASION

Marcos Daniel Jiménez, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and Brian Wimpling, Special Agent in Charge, Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, announced today that Peter K. Teixeira, plead guilty to a charge of tax evasion before United States District Judge James I. Cohn. Teixeira was charged in the Information with one count of tax evasion, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 7201. The defendant faces to a statutory maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. Judge Cohn set sentencing in the case for June 25, 2004.

Teixeira was charged in the Information with one count of tax evasion, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 7201. The defendant faces to a statutory maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

Pursuant to a plea agreement in the case, Teixeira plead guilty to evading income taxes for the year 2000 in the amount of $24,960 on unreported income of $106,207. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Teixeira agreed that the amount of income taxes he failed to pay for the years 1997 through 1999 would also be considered by the court in sentencing the defendant. Teixeira further agreed to make restitution to the Internal Revenue Service in the amount of $91,743.

Mr. Jiménez commended the investigative efforts of the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert N. Nicholson.
