DEFENDANT
SENTENCED TO 60-MONTHS PRISON TERM
FOR ATTEMPTED ONLINE ENTICEMENT OF A CHILD
Marcos Daniel Jiménez, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida; and William T. Sims, Special Agent in Charge, United States Secret Service, announced that on September 8, 2004, defendant, Andres Rojas, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge James Lawrence King in Miami, Florida, to a term of sixty (60) months imprisonment after having been convicted at trial of one (1) count of attempted online enticement of a child.
According to the evidence presented by the government at trial, Rojas, on multiple occasions in late 2003 and early 2004, used the Internet to contact someone he thought was a 13-year old girl, but who turned out to be an undercover agent. Rojas engaged the undercover agent in sexually explicit Internet chats. During these chats, Rojas repeatedly expressed his desire to meet this person, whom he thought was a 13-year old girl, in order to engage in oral sex. On January 8, 2004, Rojas arrived at the agreed upon meeting place, at which time he was arrested.
Mr. Jiménez
commended the investigative efforts of the United States Secret Service and
the Miami Electronic Crimes Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant
United States Attorneys Matthew Axelrod and Gerald Greenberg.
