BROWARD
COUNTY CHIROPRACTOR SENTENCED ON TAX EVASION CHARGES
Marcos Daniel Jiménez, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida; Eileen J. OConnor, Assistant Attorney General, Tax Division, United States Department of Justice; and Brian J. Wimpling, Special Agent in Charge, Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, announced today that United States District Court Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga sentenced Steven Dolberg, to 12 months and one day imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. Judge Altonaga also ordered Dolberg to cooperate with the IRS and pay his back taxes as a special condition of his supervised release.
Dolberg pleaded guilty to a one-count information charging him with willfully evading his personal income taxes for the years 1991 through 1993, in violation of Title 26, United States Code 7201. Dolberg evaded approximately $244,000 in income tax by diverting gross receipts from his chiropractic business by cashing checks received from patients and insurance companies at a Broward County check cashing service.
Mr. Jiménez
commended the investigative efforts of the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal
Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney
Tom Lanigan and Trial Attorney William J. Lovett, Tax Division, United States
Department of Justice.
