STATES ATTORNEY FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA
APPOINTS CARLOS B. CASTILLO AS SPECIAL COUNSEL PUBLIC AFFAIRS
Marcos Daniel Jiménez,
United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, announced the
appointment of Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlos B. Castillo as Special Counsel
to the United States Attorney for Public Affairs.
Mr. Castillo, who started with the U.S. Attorneys Office in 2002, worked
in the Appellate Division and the Civil Division prior to joining the Major
Crimes Section in October 2002. Prior to joining the United States Attorneys
Office, Mr. Castillo worked in the Civil Litigation Department at White &
Case LLP in Miami, which he joined after law school. Mr. Castillo received
his Bachelor of Arts, in Political Science, from Florida International University
in 1988, and his J.D. from the University of Miami in 1991. Mr. Castillo may

Mr. Dates, who previously held the position as Special Counsel to the United
States Attorney for Public Affairs, will now serve as Special Counsel to the
United States Attorney. Mr. Dates started with the U.S. Attorneys Office
in 1999, working in the Appellate Division and the Major Crimes Section before
joining the Narcotics Section in September 2001. Mr. Dates has been Special
Counsel for Public Affairs since April 2003. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorneys
Office, Mr. Dates served for three years as an Attorney/Advisor for the U.S.
Secret Service, where he advised the Chief Counsel on a wide variety of issues.
In his new role, Mr. Dates will supervise public affairs, community service,
the recruiting functions of the office, and will also manage special projects
and initiatives. Mr. Dates received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics
from Princeton University in 1992, and his Juris Doctorate Degree from George
Washington University, National Law Center in 1995.
