The software listed below supports HDF or HDF-EOS. Some have been posted by us, and some have been submitted to us by site users. All the postings listed are believed to be accurate, but NASA ESDIS can not vouch for the software quality or for its suitability for any particular task. If you have tried the software and have an opinion of it, or of its suitability for a particular purpose, we encourage you to post your own review by clicking on the "Submit comments" link at the bottom of the Tool Details page for the tool of interest. This tool will convert many EOS products written in HDF-EOS to GeoTIFF, native binary or HDF-EOS Grid. It also has re-projection, resampling, subsetting, stitching (mosaicing), and metadata creation capabilities. New features implemented since v0.6

  TRMM Data Reader v2
Read_HDF v2 (previously called TRMM Data Reader) is a tool to read in a TRMM HDF data file and write out user-selected SDS arrays and Vdata tables as separate flat binary files. New functionalities have recently been added including options to choose ascii output format, and running the program in batch mode. This software currently runs on UNIX systems.

This tool validates the structure and contents of HDF-EOS 5 files. It enables data product generators to encode their product profiles in an XML document, then use that document to insure their products match the profile before releasing them.

HDF-EOS Metadata Updater (HEMU) is a command-line tool for data producers or users to update metadata inside an HDF-EOS 2 or HDF-EOS 5 file. HDFView is a Java-based tool for browsing and editing NCSA HDF4 and HDF5 files. HDFView allows users to browse through any HDF4 and HDF5 file; starting with a tree view of all top-level objects in an HDF file's hierarchy.   SPOT v1.8 - Subsettability Checker

geoview is an interactive IDL program to read Level 1B and Level 2 MODIS products, list SDS and their attributes, and show granule location on a world map. It can overlay the first three user-selected channels or other data layers, geolocate each one of them, and produce a mapped true color image. Examples on how to extract different cloud masks from MOD35 are available. Now geoview has enhanced capabilities to map polar regions.
