Mr. Schiff: Murder and an attempted bribe of a U.S. Senator. All part of an organized crime case in Chicago...

Mr. Rice: "Five individuals were indicted on federal bribery charges. They were all convicted at trial of attempting to and conspiring to bribe a U.S. Senator."

Mr. Schiff: Special Agent Ross Rice at the Chicago FBI office. He says the investigation discovered phony loans from a labor union's pension fund and a murder involving a union leader in a motel parking lot...

Mr. Rice: "The head of the pension fund was going there to have lunch and he was accosted in the parking lot by a masked gunman who shot him numerous times in the head."

Mr. Schiff: Rice says Operation Pendorf included court-authorized electronic surveillance and says the Chicago FBI office continues to investigate organized crime...

Mr. Rice: "We've been extremely aggressive in investigating various allegations of illegal activity conducted by the Chicago organized crime or mafia which has resulted in a number of high-ranking members of La Cosa Nostra here in Chicago being indicted and convicted."

Mr. Schiff: In Operation Pendorf, all charged were convicted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms. I'm Neal Schiff and that's the FBI's Closed Case of the Week."
