Merchants of Terror- II
Listen with Realplayer

Mr. Schiff: They were violent; they were "The Merchants of Terror." At the Chicago FBI office, Special Agent Ross Rice says that in the mid 1980's, two fans were at a Grateful Dead concert in Wisconsin. They were kidnapped at gunpoint, bound, handcuffed, stuffed into a van and taken to a home near Chicago...

Mr. Rice: "One of the kidnapped victims, who was a 15-year-old girl, was able to escape and flee the house, literally screaming into the night."

Mr. Schiff: Rice says neighbors called police...

Mr. Rice: "They were able to effect an entry into the residence to free the second kidnapping victim and realized they had an interstate kidnapping that would be under the jurisdiction of the FBI."

Mr. Schiff: Rice says the victims were interviewed; sometime later, suspects were found...

Mr. Rice: "All four were indicted, along with several other gang members, on a variety of federal charges including Kidnapping, Continuing Criminal Enterprise and Conspiracy."

Mr. Schiff: "The Merchants of Terror," who went to prison, were known to be involved in kidnappings, beatings and extortions. I'm Neal Schiff and that's the FBI's Closed Case of the Week."
