Satellite Signal Theft - II
Listen with Realplayer

Mr. Schiff: A job lost and jail time. That's what happened to a Miami-Dade County employee who was found stealing satellite television signals and reprogramming cards for satellite dishes...

Mr. Fedyszen: "Primarily the individual was using computers set-up at his residence."

Mr. Schiff: That's FBI Special Agent Pete Fedyszen at the Miami office. He says the subject illegally downloaded software from the Internet to program the cards for people who would legally buy a satellite system but not use the cards legally...

Mr. Fedyszen: "They would never activate the card. Then, in turn, they would go to the subject and have the card illegally programmed by the subject at which point in time they would return home and be able to obtain satellite service free of charge."

Mr. Schiff: Fedyszen says the FBI and Miami-Dade County Police investigated when they got a tip...

Mr. Fedyszen: "We introduced undercover into the scenario and he met with the subject and actually had certain cards programmed by the subject."

Mr. Schiff: The county employee was arrested and admitted to the crimes. I'm Neal Schiff and that's the FBI's Closed Case of the Week."
