Satellite Signal Theft - I
Listen with Realplayer

Mr. Schiff: You may know it's illegal to steal programming signals from cable and satellite television companies. FBI Special Agent Pete Fedyszen investigated such a case in Miami a couple of years ago...

Mr. Fedyszen: "We had received information from a source that an individual was illegally programming satellite television cards."

Mr. Schiff: Fedyszen says the suspect was working out of his home in Miami-Dade County...

Mr. Fedyszen: "He illegally downloaded software from the Internet at which time he used specific computer hardware to program the satellite cards from friends of his and other individuals who would bring the cards to him."

Mr. Schiff: Fedyszen says these friends and others would then go home and break the law...

Mr. Fedyszen: "These cards, when placed into the equipment that the user would have, would permit them to receive all satellite services without charge."

Mr. Schiff: An investigation by the Miami-Dade Police Department and the FBI, which included undercover operations, led authorities to a county employee. The subject pleaded guilty, was sentenced and lost his county job. I'm Neal Schiff and that's the FBI's Closed Case of the Week."
