D. Ashley - Executive Assistant Director, Law Enforcement
Services
Mr. Ashley was
born in Los Angeles, California, and received his early
education in Southern California. Mr. Ashley earned a Bachelor
of Science degree in Accounting from the California State
University at Northridge in 1978, and a master's degree
in Public Administration from George Washington University,
Washington, D.C., in 1995.
Mr. Ashley entered
on duty with the FBI in May 1976, in the Los Angeles Division,
serving in a support position. In May 1979, Mr. Ashley
left the FBI to work in public accounting.
In April 1980,
he was appointed as a Special Agent; and following a period
of training at Quantico, Virginia, he was assigned to the
Los Angeles Division. Mr. Ashley investigated White Collar
and Violent Crimes and also served on the Los Angeles Division
SWAT team.
In January 1987,
he was transferred to FBI Headquarters, Washington, D.C.,
as a supervisor of drug investigations in the Criminal
Investigative Division.
In December 1988,
he was transferred to the Chicago Division where he supervised
its Violent Crimes Task Force. In January 1994, he was
assigned to supervise a squad specializing in Organized
Crime/Narcotics matters within the Chicago Division.
In June 1994,
Mr. Ashley was designated the Unit Chief of Investigative
Operations, Rapid Start Unit, Information Resources Division,
at FBI Headquarters.
In September 1995,
Mr. Ashley was appointed as the Assistant Special Agent
in Charge of the San Diego Division, with responsibility
for National Security matters, White Collar Crime, Civil
Rights, tactical operations, and administration of the
office. He was appointed Associate Special Agent in Charge
of the San Francisco Division in August 1997, with responsibility
for the division's operations and administration.
In February
1999, Mr. Ashley was designated Special Agent in Charge
of the
Las Vegas Division. On February 14, 2002, Director Mueller
appointed Mr. Ashley Assistant Director of the FBI's Criminal
Investigative Division. Mr. Ashley was named Executive
Assistant Director of Law Enforcement Services in May
2004.
Mr. Ashley is
a Certified Public Accountant. He and his wife, Linda,
have no children.
