Privacy Policy Statement

Thank you for visiting the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Web site and reviewing our privacy policy. In accordance with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/18/index.html) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (http://www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm), we do not collect personal data on you, unless you choose to provide that information voluntarily via e-mail or on-line request forms. We also do not sell, share, or rent any personal information about you.

Non-Personally Identifiable Information Collected and Stored Automatically

We automatically collect and store only the following information about your visit:

  • The Internet domain (for example, "xcompany.com" if you use a private Internet access account, or "yourschool.edu" if you connect from a university's domain) and IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web) from which you access our Web site;
  • The type of browser and operating system used to access our site;
  • The date and time you access our site;
  • The pages you visit; and
  • If you linked to the ONDCP Web site from another site, the address of that Web site.

This information does not identify you personally. In order to make our site more useful to visitors, we use this information to learn about the number of visitors to our site and the types of technology they use.

If You Send Us Personal Information

If you choose to provide us with personal information, such as by sending an e-mail or by filling out a form and submitting it through our Web site, we will use that information to respond to your message or to fulfill the stated purpose of the communication.

We may share information you give us with contractors acting on our behalf or with another government agency if your inquiry relates to that agency. In other limited circumstances, such as responses to requests from Congress and private individuals, we may be required by law to disclose information you submit.

Electronically submitted information is maintained and destroyed according to the principles of the Federal Records Act and the regulations and records schedules of the National Archives and Records Administration, and in some cases may be covered by the Privacy Act and subject to the Freedom of Information Act.

Our Web site has links to other federal and private drug policy sites. Once you link to another site, you are subject to the privacy policy of the new site.

Children

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) protects the online privacy and personal information of children under 13. In compliance with this act, ONDCP does not intentionally collect any personally identifiable information from individuals under 13 years of age.

Cookies

Cookies are data a Web site can send to your browser and which might be stored on your hard drive. They are used to keep track of passwords, preferences, and various aspects of a user's "session" with a Web site, and can be used to direct advertisements and prepare customized Web pages.

We do not send or make use of cookies on any public pages. On certain password-protected sections of the site, we use session cookies to enable you to log in and perform work in a secure environment. Session cookies are not stored on your hard drive, and they expire when your browser is closed.

Platform for Privacy Preferences Initiative (P3P)

ONDCP is supporting the development of technologies that will allow you to manage and control the release of your personal information whenever you go on the Internet. The ONDCP Web site is compliant with the standards set forth by the World Wide Web Consortium in the May 10, 2000 working draft of the P3P specification (http://www.w3.org/P3P/).

Security

For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, this government Web site employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage.

Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this service are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act.
