Miami Regional Library: AOML Location
Introduction:
The NOAA Miami Regional Library is a
branch of the Library and Information Services Division, Central Library
in Silver Spring, Maryland. There are two libraries in the Miami Branch:
one located at the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory
(AOML) and the other located at the National
Hurricane Center (NHC). The following information concerns the
AOML location.
Library
Hours: The library doors are open
24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the NOAA staff. The library is open to
the public for reference only Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. Library staff are available Monday through Friday from 7:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The
Collection: The Miami Branch Library
collection supports the coastal and open oceans programs, tropical and
hurricane meteorology, air-sea interaction, ocean physics, chemistry and
acoustics, atmospheric chemistry, marine geology, and other related disciplines
in the atmospheric and oceanographic sciences. Special collections include:
- NOAA Laboratories Technical Report Series for
atmospheric and oceanographic sciences.
- The Harris B. Stewart Collected Papers.
- Foreign and Caribbean meteorological data and
reports.
- Handwritten local weather records.
- WHOI technical reports and dissertations.
- U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey collection, 1807-
- U.S. Coast and Pilot charts.
- Film loops of weather.
- Historical weather data of Key West and Miami.

- In-depth reference and research, SDI to researchers.
- Computer-based information retrieval of citations,
abstracts, and full text from more than 500 databases.
- Inter-library loan and document delivery to
researchers.
- Public access PC's providing entry to databases
and a gateway to Internet resources. Databases include the Aquatic Sciences
and Fisheries Abstracts,FirstSearch, Meteorological and Geoastrophysical
Abstracts, CARL Uncover, ISI Current Contents, GEOREF, NTIS, climate
data, and a variety of CD-ROMs produced by NOAA, NCDC, NGDC, NODC, and
USGS.
- Microfiche and microfilm reader-printers and
a copy machine.
- In-library and remote access via personal computer
to NOAALINC, our automated catalog. The catalog contains the holdings
of our library, as well as 25 NOAA libraries across the country.
