Dorothy Dandridge was born on November 9, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was also known as Dorothy D. Nicholas. The FBI has no investigative file on the subject, but there are some cross references. She stated that she went to an NAACP meeting with her husband, Harold Nicholas, because he asked her to go with him. When asked if she gave a speech, she advised them she had not. She said they did ask her to sing. She later moved to France and lived there as an entertainer.
