NEWS RELEASE

R. Joe Clark, Special Agent in Charge of the Knoxville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Sheriff David K. "Kent" Harris, Unicoi County Sheriff's Office, announced the arrest of GREGORY LEE BERRY, age 20, last known address Erwin, Tennessee. Agents of the FBI and Unicoi County Sheriff's Office arrested BERRY early this morning in Erwin, Tennessee.

BERRY was wanted by Wayne County, Michigan, authorities on charges of Murder in the First Degree, Assault with Intent to Rob while Armed, Felony Murder, and Habitual Offender Third Offense Notice. BERRY is charged in the September 5, 2003, slaying of an individual attempting to pump gasoline at a service station in Detroit, Michigan. According to information received from Detroit Police Department, BERRY fled the State of Michigan to the State of Tennessee after the slaying. This information helped lead to BERRY's apprehension.
SAC Clark extended high praise to the Unicoi County Sheriff's Office for the assistance they provided in assuring a successful outcome of this operation.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
