Press Release
Acting Special Agent
in Charge (SAC) Chris Swecker, FBI Atlanta, is requesting the public's
assistance in identifying and locating two subjects who attempted to rob
the Colonial Bank located at 4245 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth on Thursday,
January 29, 2004.
At about 8:30 a.m., as bank employees were arriving at work, two black
males drove into the bank parking lot in a stolen yellow Ford Focus._
As one employee entered the bank, one of the subjects brandished a handgun,
grabbed the employee, and forced her inside._ Another bank employee who
was already inside the bank activated the bank's alarm system, generating
a call to the Duluth Police Department.
The robber spent several minutes inside the bank, where he attempted to
force bank employees to open the vault._ The attempt to open the vault
failed, and the robber was forced to flee on foot when Duluth Police Department
officers arrived on scene._ The subject who stayed outside the bank fled
in the vehicle, which he abandoned in a nearby apartment complex._ No
money was taken from the bank, and the getaway vehicle has been recovered
by authorities.
A search of the area conducted by Duluth Police Department, Gwinnett County
Police Department, and FBI was unsuccessful, and the two subjects remain
at large._ A photograph of the subject who entered the bank is attached,
and anyone having information concerning this crime is asked to contact
the Atlanta FBI at (404) 679-9000.
