The FBI's Baltimore Field Office has traditionally been one of the top FBI offices for recruiting and hiring Special Agents. For the last ten years, the Baltimore Office has entered on duty more Agents than any other FBI office. Recruitment for Baltimore takes place in both Maryland and Delaware. Each year all colleges and universities in both states are visited. This recruitment effort has also taken place at the military bases located in both states. The bases include, the United States Naval Academy, Fort George G. Meade Army Base, Andrews Air Force Base, and Dover Air Force Base.

During the last two years, Baltimore has entered on duty over 100 Special Agents. This is a significant number considering the total FBI Special Agent work force ranges between 10,000-11,000. Baltimore is currently leading the FBI in hiring Agents for this fiscal year.

The application process can take up to one year to complete depending upon an applicant's qualifications and the current hiring needs of the FBI. It includes passing a written test, interview, polygraph examination, physical fitness test, physical, and a thorough background investigation.
