Community Relations

FBI Houston Division employees dedicate their personal time to a number of community relations efforts to explain the mission of the FBI. Our employees also regularly appear at speaking engagements throughout the Houston area.

  • Speaker's Bureau
  • Citizens' Academy
  • School Career Day speeches

In addition, many of our employees are active participants in community organizations, churches, synagogues, and mosques, as well as youth activities such as Boy Scouts, little league, soccer, and others.

Adopt A School

Every school year, FBI Houston Division employees participate in a collaborative community outreach initiative with I Have A Dream® - Houston.  Volunteer FBI employees participate various in-after school mentoring activities, with an assigned "Dream Partner," serve as chaperones on field trips, and give presentations on topics such as anger management, internet safety, and career choices.  In addition, Special Agents and Support employees teach the FBI four week course for 5th grade students who then have the privilege of becoming "Junior Special Agents."

FBI Houston Citizens' Academy

Another Community Relations Program of the Houston Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is a "Citizens' Academy" which affords business and community leaders an inside look at Federal law enforcement in general and the FBI family in particular. This Academy allows private citizens to meet and interact with personnel of the FBI Houston Division in a positive and informal setting, sharing ideas and information. The Citizens' Academy creates a closer connection between FBI Houston Division and the surrounding community through an educational process; fosters greater understanding of the role of FBI policies and programs through frank interactive discussions; and expands the pool of community leaders who understand first-hand the complex challenges of Federal law enforcement through examination of actual FBI investigations. Participants are chosen by the Special Agent in Charge of the Houston FBI Office from a list of Candidates nominated by FBI supervisors and Citizens' Academy Alumni. The Citizens' Academy is not a Special Agent's class. Completion of the FBI Houston Citizens' Academy sessions will allow participants to keep informed about law enforcement issues and the FBI, and qualify them to join a Citizens' Alumni Association to be able to meet with incoming Citizens' Academy classes; schedule FBI Houston Speakers' Bureau presentations for your organization, civic club, or association; be invited to specialized seminars on current topical issues, and be recognized as a member of the FBI Citizens' Academy Alumni Association. The Houston Division holds Citizens' Academy is convened once a year.
