Greetings and welcome to the FBI's Alaska web site. As the Special Agent in Charge, I am very pleased to be able to present you with information about our investigative responsibilities and priorities; community outreach initiatives; and employment opportunities in the FBI. I began my current assignment in Alaska as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) in November, 2002. Prior to this, I was the Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the Albany Division of the FBI for over two years. The Albany Division covers all of upstate New York and the entire State of Vermont so I'm not a stranger to snow and ice. Originally from Northern New Jersey, I graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1979 (B.A.) and 1983 (J.D.) and am licensed to practice law in the State of South Carolina. Joining the FBI as a Special Agent in 1984, I have served in the San Antonio (Austin Resident Agency), New York, Houston, Albany, and Anchorage field offices as well as FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The Anchorage Division of the FBI has Federal investigative responsibilities that cover the entire state of Alaska, all 586,000 square miles. The Division is currently comprised of over sixty Special Agents and Professional Support Employees. We have two Resident Agencies, one in Fairbanks and one in Juneau Alaska, with two agents assigned to each office.

Our facility currently houses the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) which is responsible for coordinating and addressing investigative matters relating to terrorist activities in the State of Alaska. The JTTF is composed of numerous local, state, and federal agencies to include, but not limited to: the Anchorage Police Department, the Alaska State Police, the U.S. Marshal Service, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the U.S. Customs Service, the U.S. Attorney's Office, and the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

The Alaska State Troopers' Statewide Law Enforcement Information Center (SLEIC) is also housed in our Anchorage office and is staffed with personnel from the Alaska State Troopers and the National Guard. This center collects, analyzes, and disseminates intelligence gathered by law enforcement to municipal, state, and federal law enforcement agencies throughout Alaska.

In conjunction with our criminal investigations, the Anchorage Division of the FBI uses the Federal forfeiture laws to divest criminals of the property and assets they accumulate through their criminal enterprises. During 2002, $245,617 in assets were seized and forfeited.

The Anchorage Division has sent many Alaskan law enforcement officers to attend the FBI National Academy located at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The National Academy is a ten week course designed to enhance executive management skills in current law enforcement and police management issues. Additionally, the Anchorage Division has provided extensive law enforcement training to state and local law enforcement agencies over the years, such as forfeiture investigations, hate crime investigations and crisis management.
