The CIA produces many publications which are unclassified and which can be provided to the public.

The Public Communications Branch staff produces publications such as the Factbook on Intelligence, which describes the CIA, its organization, and its mission; Intelligence in the War for Independence; The Office of Strategic Services; Intelligence Literature, a suggested reading list; and CIA Maps and Publications Released to the Public, a comprehensive list and description of CIA printed products available to the public.

The Directorate of Intelligence produces the Agency’s most popular publication, The World Factbook, which contains thousands of statistics on the nations of the world.  It also produces the publication Chiefs of State and Cabinet Ministers of Foreign Governments, which lists current government officials for each nation, as well as a variety of economic and other publications.

The Center for the Study of Intelligence publishes books, such as CIA and the Vietnam Policymakers: Three Episodes 1962-1968; monographs, such as The Final Months of the War with Japan: Signals Intelligence, U.S. Invasion Planning and the A-Bomb Decision; and unclassified editions of Studies in Intelligence, a journal.

Many of these publications are available on this Web site.  In addition, Agency publications are available for purchase or subscription.
