New Training in Support of Project Safe Neighborhoods
This is information on new training being offered in support of Project Safe Neighborhoods(PSN). The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services(COPS)is funding a program intended to assist U.S. Attorneys with the formation of partnerships critical to the success of local PSN programs. Under the auspices of the COPS Office, the Community Policing Consortium(Consortium)has developed two training programs, Law Enforcement Partnerships to Reduce Gun Violence and Engaging the Community to Reduce Gun Violence. These training programs can facilitate the succesful implementation of PSN in each district. All U.S. Attorneys, First U.S. Attorneys, Criminal Chiefs, PSN Coordinators, and Project Sentry Coordinators are encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity to further the goals of your individual PSN programs.

Law Enforcement Partnerships to Reduce Gun Violence is based on demonstrated experience that gun violence can be reduced by addressing policy and planning strategically. The technical assistance will help you:

1. Address policy and implementation challenges specific to a jurisdiction;
2. Plan strategically for partnerships with the community;
3. Spotlight public safety issues by employing collaborative problem solving methods; and
4. Develop blueprints to implement innovations that executives can replicate at their agencies.

The Consortium can also assist prosecutors in this initiative by Engaging the Community to Reduce Gun Violence. By bringing together prevention, intervention, and enforcement through increased communication between law enforcement and community organizations, the Consortium has helped build partnerships in various communities. This technical assistance will help you:

1. Adopt a pragmatic approach to collaboration and problem solving;
2. Create an environment in which participants are total and equal community policing partners for the reduction of gun violence; and
3. Create an environment in which trust engenders support for law enforcement and provides a basis for a working relationship with the community.

Technical assistance will be offered in 26 metropolitan areas across the country. If you wish to explore the technical assistance and training available to each United States Attorney's Office, please contact the Community Policing Consortium, Ms. Heather Stupak Petter at 202-833-3305/E-mail- petter@communitypolicing.org.
