About NASA Ames Research Center
Ames Safety Mission

Goal: Prevent All Injuries

Objective: Provide a safe working environment to all employees (performance metrics for this objective are the Ames Safety Accountability Program, ASAP)

We must be committed to the following safety philosophy:

  1. All injuries can be prevented
  2. Management is accountable for safety and responsible for preventing all injuries
  3. Working safely is a condition of employment.
  4. All hazards can be controlled.
  5. Management has the responsibility to ensure that all employees are adequately trained.
  6. Injury prevention is essential to mission success
  7. Whenever there is a conflict between our safety objectives and our mission objectives, safety shall be our first consideration.

"Safety is our most important mission.  Our Center's success depends on the safety of each person that works at Ames.  Safety is an inherent part of everything we do, especially our research and development."

Scott Hubbard
Director, NASA Ames Research Center Director

NASA Safety Reporting System

Submit a NSRS (NASA Safety Reporting System) report to NASA Headquarters via the web at (this is confidential for civil servants and contractors and reaches NASA Management).

Ames Voluntary Protection Program

The US Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) encourages companies to improve their occupational safety and health programs through Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) certification by OSHA. This certification demonstrates a strong and successful safety program.
