George Raft, an entertainer and movie actor, was born September 27, 1895, in New York, City. He was close to gangsters of the early era, Bugsy Segal, Owen Madden, John and Al Capone, Vito Genovese, Frank Costello, Abner Zwillman, Joe Adonis, and Jack Dragna. In June 1923, he married the daughter of the New York City Police Commissioner, but they separated soon after. Because of her religious beliefs, they did not divorce. In October of 1946, he took part in a dice game at the apartment of Leo Durocher. In 1959, Raft was stopped in Cuba. He had gone to Cuba to meet and greet the people coming into the Capri Hotel. He was stopped, searched, and sent back out of the country. In 1969, Raft was kicked out of England because of his connection to the hoodlum element.
